Use the process below to understand your Medicare options, review prescription plans, and access Medicare plans.  This process will help you determine Medicare Path.

Actions
Step #1
Choose Your Medicare Path
There are 2 main ways to get your Medicare coverage – Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. When you first enroll in Medicare and during certain times of the year you can choose how you get your Medicare coverage.
Step #2
Apply For Original Medicare
Whether you choose Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare, you must apply for Medicare to start receiving benefits.

Medicare Premiums
Most people don’t pay a Part A premium because they paid Medicare taxes while working.
Most people pay the standard Part B monthly premium amount. Social Security will tell you the exact amount you’ll pay for Part B.
Medicare Benefits
Medicare Part A (hospital insurance)
helps cover inpatient care in hospitals (including critical access
hospitals) and skilled nursing facilities (not custodial or long-term care). Part A also pays for some home health care and hospice care and inpatient care in a religious non-medical health care institution.

Medicare Part B (medical insurance)
helps cover medically necessary doctors’ services, outpatient care, home health services, durable medical equipment, mental health services, and other medical services. Part B also covers many preventative services.
Apply For Medicare
Online
You can use the online retirement application to sign up just for Medicare and wait to apply for your retirement or spouses benefits later. It takes less than 10 minutes, and there are no forms to sign and usually no documentation is required.
Local Social Security Office
If you do not want to apply for benefits online, or you need to speak to someone for any other reason, you can schedule, reschedule or cancel an appointment by:
• Calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday
• Contacting your local Social Security office.
By Phone
Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. TTY users can call 1-800-325-0778.
Step #3
Medicare Supplements (Medigap) OR Medicare Advantage
Depending on the Medicare Path you've chosen, you will want to investigate the options for your health coverage.

Medicare Supplements (Medigap)
A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy is an insurance policy that helps fill "gaps" in Original Medicare and is sold by private companies. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. Medigap policies are sold by private companies, and can help pay for some of the costs that Original Medicare doesn't, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage is a Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to Original Medicare for your health and drug coverage. These “bundled” plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D. In most cases, you can only use doctors who are in the plan’s network. In many cases, you may need to get approval from your plan before it covers certain drugs or services. Plans may have lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare. Plans may offer some extra benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover—like vision, hearing, and dental services.
Step #4
Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Plans)
Step four guides you through the plan selection process and gives you the steps to enroll in the best coverage for you and your family.

Complete Guide
Medicare drug coverage (Part D) helps you pay for both brand-name and generic drugs. Medicare drug plans are offered by insurance companies and other private companies approved by Medicare.
Prescription Worksheet
The first step in finding the right Medicare drug plan is to organize all the medications you take into a simple list, including the dosages, quantity, and frequency. The goal is to find a plan that covers all or as many of your medications as possible.

No income qualification required.  Small group eligibility must be met.
