- Inpatient care in a hospitall: Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient hospital care if you meet both of these conditions:
- Skilled nursing facility care: Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers skilled nursing facility care for a limited time (on a short-term basis) if you meet all of these conditions
- Nursing home care: (inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility that’s not custodial or long-term care): Medicare doesn't cover custodial care, if it's the only care you need. Most nursing home care is custodial care, which helps you with activities of daily living (like bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, and eating) or personal needs that could be done safely and reasonably without professional skills or training.
- Hospice care: You qualify for hospice care if you have Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and meet all of these conditions: 1) Your hospice doctor and your regular doctor (if you have one) certify that you’re terminally ill (with a life expectancy of 6 months or less). 2) You accept comfort care (palliative care) instead of care to cure your illness. 3) You sign a statement choosing hospice care instead of other Medicare-covered treatments for your terminal illness and related conditions.
Medicare Part B (Doctors)
- Medically Necessary Services: Services or supplies that are needed to diagnose or treat your medical condition and that meet accepted standards of medical practice.
- Preventive Services: Health care to prevent illness (like the flu) or detect it at an early stage, when treatment is most likely to work best.

- Outpatient
- Partial hospitalization
- Intensive outpatient program services (starting January 1, 2024)
